‘Nothing can dim the light that shines from within.’

Your Inner Light

When was the last time you truly felt that inner glow emanate from within your entire being; bursting forth through a genuine passion for the life you are living? If you feel that it has been quite a while since you felt that way, it might be because of the stifled energy in your ‘Sacral Chakra’ also known as Svādhiṣṭhāna’.

How  Svādhiṣṭhāna Gets  Suppressed

Svādhiṣṭhāna is our second chakra, and it is very closely connected in location and also in function to our root chakra. Situated in the lower abdominal region above our genitals, it symbolizes our emotional energy, creativity and sensuality. It is also associated with the functioning of our lymphatic system, since its primary element is water, representing flexibility and fluidity- or in simple terms, spontaneity in life.

Svādhiṣṭhāna defines the foundation of our inherent feeling of well-being and provides us with the creative outlet to express ourselves wholly and freely. By doing this, we’re able to establish a connection with our inner self, and with the world around us.

Since it largely determines our psychological and behavioral patterns, any imbalance in our sacral chakra can translate to emotional instability, addiction, a ‘blocked identity’, and even physical illness. Whilst a deficit in its energy can cause a person to be cold and stoic, sexually rigid and detached, contrarily, a surplus of the same could result in excessive codependency on others, addiction to any pleasure-giving activities and also being emotionally volatile.

Look Within… If you suspect having any of these manifestations in yourself, you might want to look for the following factors which may have caused impairment in your second chakra:

~ Toxic relationships and resulting dissatisfaction
~ Negative outlook about expressing sexual needs and desires
~ Sexual abuse and/or dysfunction
~ Restrictive or suppressed growth as a child
~ Being bullied or body shamed
~ Infertility

Give In to Creative Expression

Once you’ve managed to ascertain your root cause of ‘blocked’ energy, you must start from the very basic principle of releasing your sacral energy- and that principle is freedom of creative expression. Begin by deconstructing all these preconceived notions of fearing failure and risks, which society has conditioned your mind with.

Be Playful

Let your inner child do its magic and begin experimenting with the infinite amount of creative energy you have within. The more wholeheartedly and freely you let loose, the lighter you will feel and receive abundant joy from experiencing the word through all your senses.

Reiki Healing

Clearing, balancing, and dissolving blocked energy with Distance Reiki is a wonderful way to nurture the body mind and spirit. Reiki encourages positive thought patterns and is known for restoring and deepening oneness and connection. It can be used to bring harmony and balance to the root cause of imbalance as well as relieve physical, mental, emotional and energetic conditions while activating emotional healing.

Meditation & Yoga

Cleansing this trapped energy with meditation and yoga is always supremely beneficial. Asanas like the butterfly pose, cobra pose, breathing from the left nostril, seated pelvic circles, pigeon and reverse warrior pose, are specific formations that help release any surplus energy, and likewise stimulate the movement of static energy. In mantra meditation, reciting a deep ‘VAM’ mantra is an effective way of healing through sound vibrational energy.

Emotional Purgation

Another potent technique useful in opening up ‘frozen’ energy channels, especially in the case of sacral chakra, is practicing emotional purgation. If you’ve been raised in an environment where freely expressing anger, frustration or sorrow was deemed unacceptable or improper, you probably have a lot of it pent up inside of you. So let out a big scream, bawl your eyes out, laugh out loud and even jump up in joy if you’d like! A proper release of these emotions can be deeply cathartic.

Look Within

The Sanskrit term ‘Svādhiṣṭhāna’ literally means ‘your own dwelling space’ and it is denoted by the color –orange. Color therapy using the color orange for visualizing and stimulating positive psychological effects in our brain, and also reconnecting with the element of water, are recommended for healing our sacral chakra.

Often, a crescent moon shape is used to symbolize this chakra because it represents femininity, beauty and sensuality. Knowing your true self-worth and feeling secure in yourself will help dispel any pain, envy, fear and distrust arising from a lack thereof. This allows a person to truly shine from within and offer the world a part of this positive, spirited energy.

Crystal Meditation

Gemstones like amber, orange calcite, carnelian, hematite, moonstone and orange aventurine –help remove energy blocking sabotaging habits that we have developed and grant us full access to youthful vitality and a vibrant outlook on life.

Spice of Life

Consuming calming and pacifying spices like ginger, especially in hot beverages like tea, can improve our mental state and help resolve the emotional triggers responsible for wreaking havoc in trying situations. Diets rich in foods like apricots, mangoes, peaches, carrots, sweet potatoes, papaya and almonds, can provide stability in mood and also draw one out of the rut of addictive habitual patterns. Additionally, aromatherapy using essential oils of lemongrass, orange, neroli, jasmine, rosewood and bergamot also facilitates a smooth functioning and fluid energy flow in the sacral chakra.

Balance In All Things

Lastly, but also most importantly, practicing self-care is absolutely key to restoration of lost energy. Drawing a fine line of balance between overindulgence in pleasure and sexual frigidity, is responsible for a healthy and balanced Svādhiṣṭhāna. Take time to bolster self- confidence through daily self-affirmations. Doing this helps to develop personal magnetism and charisma, sift through impediments to a loving, healthy and judgement free mindset, and promotes gratitude and appreciation for the gift that life is.
